For fostering the spirit of liberal arts and enhancing the education of humanities and social studies, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences was established in August 1999. The college currently comprises two departments--- Department of Chinese Literature and Department of Foreign Languages and Literature , two graduate institutes --- Institute of History and Historical Relics and Institute of Public Policy, and Center for Teacher Education , Language Center and Art Center.

Goal

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences aims to accelerate the progress of related projects as well as to attain some of the essential goals of the university. These goals are to diversify the educational ranges in the university, to achieve the balance between natural sciences and humanities, to cultivate a healthy life style for the younger generation, and to apply scientific methodology to the research of humanities.
Perspectives

Since humanities and social sciences are the fundamentals of higher education, it is urgent to accelerate the development of these fields. By encouraging the teaching staff, elevating academic level, enriching sophisticated research, recruiting excellent teachers and providing the best facilities possible, the college, we believe, is going to team very well together with other colleges for the welfare of the community and the promotion of higher education in the greater Taichung area.
